Now in its fourth year, the Canadian Screen Music Awards (CASMA) is an annual celebration of composer’s excellence in scoring original music for the screen. Launched and administered by Screen Composers Guild of Canada, these awards are open to all Canadian and permanent resident composers with winners chosen by the SCGC’s roster of judges.

And the winner of the 2025 Leo Award, Best Musical Score, Motion Picture is...

BRENT BELKE for Can I Get a Witness?  This is Brent's 2nd Leo Award, he has 6 previous Leo nominations. 

The film swept the Leo Awards Motion Picture category this year, also winning for: Best Motion Picture, Best Director (Ann Marie Fleming), Best Screen Writing (Ann Marie Fleming), Best Cinematography (C. Kim Miles), Best Casting (Tina Marie McCulloch), and Best Lead Performance (Keira Jang). The film, starring Sandra Oh, also received 3 other nominations and is distributed by Mongrel Media.

DAVE GENN for Wild Cards (season 2, episode: Con in 60 Seconds)! Big congrats to Dave and co-composer Shawn Pierce.

Billboard Canada's Screen Composer of the Year is...

...Core composer MARK KORVEN! The 'First Omen' and "The Lighthouse' composer was named the first winner of the SOCAN-presented award, accepting the honour at Billboard Canada Power Players 2025.

Korven was on an extremely strong shortlist that also included renowned composers Cristobal Tapia de Veer (Smile 2, The White Lotus), Andrew Lockington (Atlas, Mayor of Kingstown, Prime Monday Night Hockey), Michelle Osis (TRex in IMAX)and Jeff Toyne (Palm Royale).

Billboard Canada Names Its Top 5 Shortlist for 2025

So proud to announce that Core composer MARK KORVEN has been shortlisted for Billboard Canada's Screen Composer of the Year. The top five candidates are: Andrew Lockington, Michelle Osis, Cristobal Tapia de Veer, Mark Korven, and Jeff Toyne.

The award, presented by @socanmusic, is shining a light on five talented composers who have made a global impact, scoring some of the most powerful moments in film and television. The award will be presented at Billboard Canada Power Players on June 11 at the Illuminarium in Toronto.
