Classically trained in both Western and Indian music, multi-instrumentalist Amritha Vaz has journeyed from performing to arranging and finally composing scores for film and television. After co-scoring a CBC documentary about Hungarian refugees, she began working with Oscar and Grammy award winning composer, Mychael Danna (Moneyball, The Life Of Pi).
Her work with Danna spanned 11 feature films and two TV series, including the Oscar nominated scores for The Imaginarium Of Dr. Parnassus, Marc Webb’s 500 Days Of Summer, Cannes winner Adoration and The Time Traveller’s Wife. With Danna, she co-composed the scores to Najwa Najjar’s Doha Tribeca award-winning Pomegranates And Myrrh and Dilip Mehta’s Cooking With Stella.
She now composes out of her own studio in Hollywood, recently scoring the award winning feature documentaries Made In India and Music For Mandela. Her feature comedy Bird Co. Media had its world premiere to great applause at last year’s Whistler Film Festival and just recently, Amritha put the finishing touches on her score to the feature comedy/drama Miss India America.
