Brahja Waldman
Devin Brahja Waldman was raised in Cherry Valley, N.Y., New York City, and Jemez Springs, NM, and has lived in Montreal since 2003. He is the leader and composer of Brahja Waldman’s Quartet as well as Brahja Waldman & Friends of Freedom. He plays saxophone in Land of Kush and Xi-Fu Sagas, and drums in You Yourself & i. These projects, as well as his long-lasting partnership with a number of poets, have brought Waldman on tour across North America, and to the historical bandstands of the Poetry Project, Town Hall, Cornelia Street Cafe, the Bowery Poetry Room, Suoni Per Il Popolo and the Montreal International Jazz Festival. Waldman is also the vice-president of Fast Speaking Music Studios in New York.
Waldman has also scored the music for two short films: one by Canada's enduring independent filmmaker, Larry Kent, called Hastings Street, and the other by Toronto's young filmmaker, Sarah Lazarovic, called The Baguette Runner.
